Crucified, Died, and was Buried

… You’ll notice that the Creeds seem to skip a lot of the story between the birth of Jesus and his death on a Roman cross. That would appear to leave a lot of important stuff out of the equation. It’s important to recognize, however, that the Creeds are primarily focused on addressing the Church’s teaching about Jesus as both Son of God and Son of Man, which in turn gives the teaching and work of Jesus in the rest of the Gospels a supreme level of authority. If Jesus was simply a great moral teacher or a failed martyr, his story would be a footnote in history of which most people would not be aware. If, on the other hand, a crucified man was resurrected from the dead, it puts his whole life and ministry in a much larger context. All history turns on this important point. Continue Reading…..
