We Believe in Jesus Christ
… In last week’s sermon we took a deep dive into defining what the Apostles’ Creed says when it affirms God as Father, Almighty, and Creator. This week we shift to the lengthiest part of the creed as it talks about the person of Jesus Christ.
In fact, the great creeds of the Church are really, in effect, statements about Jesus. He is the central figure and the one through whom we understand the nature of the Trinity. The creeds were formed in the midst of controversy about who Jesus really was and is. Is he of the same substance as God, or is he merely of a similar substance? Was he preexistent or a created being? Is he truly human as well as divine, or was that merely an illusion? Continue Reading…….
