Monday Devotional: Healing and Honor (Mark 7:31-37)

DAVID F. WATSON

… God’s values are different from ours. Humans, laboring under the power of sin, choose all the wrong things and consistently make decisions that keep us from the fullness of life. The world around us teaches us to seek after things about which God cares nothing. Thus we have to repent. We have to admit that we want the wrong things, and often do the wrong things, and allow God to work in our lives to bring our hearts into agreement with his.

On his way back from Tyre, Jesus passes through a region called the Decapolis, which means “ten cities.” In the first century, the Decapolis was inhabited mainly by gentiles. Jesus’ route is circuitous, taking him well east of the most direct route back to Galilee. Once again, however, Mark’s story anticipates the gentile mission. This is not, moreover, the first time Jesus has visited the Decapolis. In Gerasa, one of the cities of this region, he cast out a legion of demons from a poor man living among the tombs (5:1-20). <a href="http://

Monday Devotional: Healing and Honor (Mark 7:31-37) by David F.
